Thoughtful Gifts for Busy Moms and Dads

Busy moms and dads appreciate anything that saves time and makes life easier.  So think about what your busy moms and dads need. Is it help in the kitchen, on the job, or just something fun to make their commute more enjoyable?

Here are some thoughtful gift ideas you may not of have considered before:

A chest freezer may not be romantic but it can save busy moms and dads a lot of time and money.  They can simply repackage the bargain-sized packages into single meal sized packages using a vacuum-sealing machine.  The savings are huge especially when purchasing meat.  And when your busy mom or dad cooks, it’s just as easy to make two dinners and freeze one for later.  Another great help would be a Slow Cooker and Slow Cooker Cookbook.

Create a voucher for a cooking club made of four friends with similar family size and tastes. Once every three months, each person  shops for enough groceries to make a favorite dinner recipe – one to keep and three to share – totaling 4 dinners apiece.  Meet at a designated kitchen to assemble dinners together and share in the clean up.  Not only is it a fun afternoon of friends being together, but it also creates four easy, diverse dinners for each person to take home, plus a collection of new recipes.

7 Summer Relaxation Tips for Busy Moms

Longer daylight hours, warmer weather, children out of school – depending on how you view it, summer can be either a wonderful time, or one filled with overwhelming stress.  If you’re tending toward the latter, stop and think about how you can make this summer the best ever.  Learn to relax.

Here are some ideas that will get you started:

Get in vacation mode as often as you can.  Rather than rushing to get everything done, slow down your pace, quit watching the clock and enjoy the moment.

Create a list of simple pleasures and do one every day.  Ride a bicycle, fly a kite, take photos of butterflies, make cookies, blow bubbles, read, or whatever you like. It only takes a few minutes to do something that will brighten your whole day.

Keep a “Relax Kit” in the trunk of the car. When you see a beautiful spot, pull over, get the blanket and nonperishable snacks out, and have a spur of the moment picnic.  A Relax Kit can include a book you want to read, a ball or card games for the kids to play with, sunscreen, a blanket, inflatable pillows with cloth covers to recline comfortably, and nonperishable snacks.  Always carry water to drink when traveling, and you’re set!

Treat yourself to a home spa.  Give yourself a hair treatment, skin-brightening mask, herbal bubble bath surrounded by candles, natural manicure, or facial massage.  Moms especially need time alone to be refreshed.

Create special occasions out of the ordinary.  Instead of simply putting in a movie, create imaginative tickets for your family (besides the movie title and seat assignment, list on each why you love that person), decorate the TV room with streamers, make caramel popcorn, and turn out the lights.  Or make dinnertime special by using your good china, light candles, and play background music. Have your children dress up as waiters and let them serve according to their ability.  And if you have it catered, it’s a real treat.

Laugh every day.  How long has it been since you’ve had a good laugh?  They say laughter is the best medicine, so take a healthy dose.  Check out humorous writers, funny movies, take your children to play with farm animals, visit a circus, and most important learn to laugh at your own mistakes.

Put up a hammock, swing on a swing set, or get a rocking chair for your patio.  There’s something about the rocking motion that calms.  And, when you combine that with being outside in the fresh air, it’s wonderfully relaxing.

It’s really the simple pleasures of life that help us relax. The beginning of summer is a great time to make a mental list of what you really want to do.  Feel free to contact us at Simplify to see how our Home Concierge Services can free up your time to do the things that make the difference between a stressed out summer and one that’s filled with fun!

Relax, Here Are 7 of the Best Gifts to Give Your Mother

No one deserves to get gifts more than your mother.  Being a mom can be a pretty thankless job sometimes. The family can take for granted the clean clothes to wear, food to eat, a comfortable home to live in, and a ready hug and reassurance when we hurt.

So, how can a family show appreciation for everything mother does? Here are 7 of the best gifts to give your mother:

#1 Turn a thankless job into a pleasure by genuinely expressing, “Thank you for...”

#2 Give mother a big hug, a tender kiss, and a heartfelt, “I love you.”

#3 Give mother room to be herself.  Yes, she’s a mother, but she’s also a woman of many talents and desires.  Let her express herself by giving her time to do the things she loves to do, whether it’s painting, writing, reading, jogging, volunteering, and so on.

#4 Give mother a break. Be aware of how much you demand from her and give her some slack. Can you do it for yourself?  Then do it.  Don’t insist your needs have to be fulfilled right now!  Rather than running her legs off, give her time to relax.

#5 Write her a love letter or poem.  Nothing makes the heart sing like words that can be read over and over again.  She’ll appreciate it more knowing it’s difficult for you to do.

#6 Pamper her with something that she’d never get for herself.

#7 Take over one of her chores.  Think about the things she does day in and day out and relieve her of one of them.  Maybe you can’t cook dinner every night, but could you learn to cook one or two dishes to give her a break?  At the very least, don’t grumble when she asks you to do something.

Do you see a common thread through all of these gifts?  All of them focus on what mother needs.  Her need for love.  Her need for fun.  Her need for relaxation.  When you focus on the needs of the other person, your gifts will always be perfect.

If our motivation is “Oh, I’m going to be in so much trouble for forgetting.”  or “I don’t know what to give, I’ll just buy …”; then it’s time to step back and build new appreciation for mother and truly see what she needs. Then giving her the best gift won’t be hard.  Because what she needs from you is your love, time, and attention that shows her she’s special.

Why not plan special things for mother all year long?  Just something simple that lets her relax and enjoy life.  Once you see how the whole family benefits, you may want to make it a lifetime practice.   Simplify’s home concierge service can do a lot to free up time so you can treat mother to that something special.  Feel free to ask us for suggestions.

And if you’re a mom you might want to share this post with your family. The rest of this month we’ll be sharing more tips to help you take time for yourself and relax a little bit. You deserve it!

Unusual Gift Ideas for the Working Mom

Giving gifts can be just as fun as receiving them. The hard part of giving gifts is knowing what to give to important moms in our lives. Many times we fall back on the classics...flowers or a box of chocolates. Maybe that is because we cannot think of what else to give.

Well, think no more! Whether you are looking to give a gift to another mom, give a hint to your husband, or even get something for yourself, here are some great gift suggestions for the working mom. The key is to find something that will give her more time, energy, and refreshment.

A day at the spa. Who doesn't want a spa day? Time to relax and rejuvenate is what every working mom needs. It allows them completely focus on themselves. Consider purchasing gift card to a local spa or even setting up a monthly massage appointment. Select a treatment that they will enjoy.

Take over a weekly household chore. I love this gift idea especially for husbands. Select one household chore and take care of it for them. For example, dish duty one night a week, cooking one meal a week, or getting the kids ready for school one morning. It may not seem like a lot, but to a working mom, having one item removed from her plate will be a breath of fresh air.

Center the gift around her hobby. What does your working mom love to do? Exercise, read, cook, take bubble baths, watch romantic comedies...Choose a gift that will allow her to indulge in whatever hobby she has. Sometimes it is hard to spend money or time on those little fun things for yourself, but when someone else gifts it to you, it can make it a whole lot easier.

Purchase Simplify services. Simplify was designed specifically for the working mom. Grocery shopping, meal preparation, laundry service, housecleaning...you need it, we got it! By taking care of these household responsibilities once a week or even once a month can give a hardworking mom a few valuable moments to spend however they would like. Simplify is the perfect gift for any mom, any time of the year!
