Spring Cleaning Room by Room Checklist

In a previous blog, I did a rundown of how to get organized for your spring cleaning projects.  I also listed some general instructions on cleaning that you might want to review.  (As a reminder, always check the manufacturer’s instructions for proper cleaning and care.

Here is an easy-to-use checklist that you can print. You can add items that you want to do in your home.

Kitchen
  • The night before you begin cleaning spread newspapers on the floor to catch any drips and spray the oven with cleaner so it can be loosening up the spills while you sleep.  Wipe it out in the morning.  Clean the stovetop surface and knobs.
  • Clean the stove hood using a good degreaser.
  • Wipe down the ceiling and walls with a weak solution of dishwashing soap and water.
  • Wash the windows and screens. A bucket of water with a drop of dishwashing liquid and 1 cup of white vinegar works really well.  Clean the windows when they are not in direct sunlight otherwise it can cause streaking.
  • Unplug or turn off the circuit breaker to the refrigerator so you can clean the coils underneath and defrost the freezer.  When you’ve finished cleaning the inside of the refrigerator, be sure to turn it back on. Baking soda is an inexpensive and effective cleanser.
  • Clean the microwave.
  • Clean the dishwasher.
  • Clean the coffee maker according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Remove crumbs from the toaster after you unplug it and wipe down other appliances.
  • Wipe down cupboards inside and out.  Organize items and throw away anything that is past its expiration date.
  • Clean countertops, back splash, and sink.
  • Mop and wax floor according the manufacturer’s instructions.

Bathroom

  • Spray shower walls with cleanser.  As it soaks, wipe down ceiling and walls.
  • Clean the shower and bathtub.
  • Wipe down cabinets inside and out, checking for medication or cosmetics that have expired so you can throw them away.
  • You can wash the vinyl shower curtain and the bath mat with any washable rugs or towels.
  • Clean the toilet and sink.
  • Mop and wax the floor according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Living Room

  • Wipe down the ceiling and walls with a damp sponge mop or dry sheep wool duster.
  • Clean light fixtures and fans with a mild cleansing solution.  Make sure not to touch the light bulbs that are on or hot.
  • Your vacuum with a brush attachment can be your best friend in dusting windowsills, baseboards, shelving, knickknacks, artwork, lamps, lampshades, books, drapery, furniture, etc.
  • Dust the TV and entertainment equipment.
  • Wash the windows and screens.
  • Some drapery can be put it in the dryer on AIR FLUFF ONLY, NO HEAT, to tumble the dust out of them.  Check manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning them.
  • Wash the doors and knobs.
  • Move all the furniture out and shampoo the carpet.
  • Polish or wax your woodwork.

Bedroom

  • Wipe down or dust ceiling and walls.
  • Clean the curtains, windows, and screens.
  • Organize the closet, getting rid of what you haven’t worn in the last year.  Bring out your summer wardrobe and store your winter things.
  • Organize the dresser drawers.
  • Strip the bed and vacuum the mattress.  Turn the mattress to even out the wear.
  • Wash all the bedding according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Wash the doors and knobs.
  • Shampoo the carpet.
Office
  • Wipe down ceiling and walls.
  • Clean the curtains, windows, and screens.
  • Vacuum the dust off of your computer and wipe it down with a damp rag.
  • Dust any pictures, shelves, knickknacks, lamps, etc.
  • Wipe down office equipment with a mild cleaning solution.  To clean the computer keys you can use a Q-tip dampened with rubbing alcohol.
  • Review papers in your files.  Shred the ones that are out of date and you don’t need to keep.

In cities with real crowded and fast forward life house cleaning is a headache some times. Individuals who own homes, tenants, and one-off occasions especially used domestic cleaning services. This save the time but lose the money when you not get wanted results. Find service providers that can provide you modeled services and some additional services like carpet cleaning.
