Simplify Your Home Office Space

Keeping your home office space organized is a must! The benefits include being more productive and less stressed. When your home office is disorganized that stress can spill over into your family life all too quickly. Of course, getting organized is easier said than done.

I’ve compiled a list of things you can do to simplify and organize your work space:

Clear off your desk. Only keep the necessary items on the top of your desk...computer, telephone, calendar. The more clutter you have on your desk, the easier it will be to get distracted.

Sort your paperwork. Categorize your paperwork. If there are papers that need to be responded to immediately, keep them in a specific file close by. Papers that you need to reference on a fairly regular basis, invest in a filing cabinet to keep in your office. For papers that you need to keep, but to do not use regularly, file them into a box and put the box in storage. And don't forget to label all your files and boxes accurately, so you can quickly identify what’s inside.

Set-up an office supply station. Categorize all of your office supplies into types (paperclips, pens, stamps, envelopes etc.). Use storage containers to organize these items and put them in one convenient area. Keep it well stocked and organized. Instead of spending a few minutes looking for that pesky paperclip, you will know exactly where to go, saving you a lot of time!

If you don't need it or want it, get rid of it. Don't be afraid to throw things away. If you feel that the item may be of use to someone else, then give it away or donate it.

Keep it up. Don't wait till your office is a mess again before you clean and organize it. Take a few minutes every couple of days to straighten up. If you consistently do this, then your office will never get to the point of being unmanageable.
