Study Links Good Sex Life with More Housework
I was reading one of my favorite blogs this week – The Juggle by the Wall Street Journal – and was surprised to learn the connection between housework and your sex life! Apparently a new study, published this month in the Journal of Family Issues, shows that for husbands and wives alike the more housework you do, the more often you’re likely to have sex with your spouse.
Now I’ve blogged in the past about the frustration many women feel when they’re trying to get their husbands more involved in household chores. So could this be some additional motivation? Other research supports the conclusion that wives report more feelings of affection toward their husbands when they share housework.
Honestly I don’t know if this study will help husbands see the light and rush to do the laundry. For whatever reason (whether it's innate or we've conditioned them), husbands don't seem likely to change. Some of them are great at chipping in and doing their share of housework and some aren’t, so there’s no point beating our heads against the wall and hoping they'll change.
But, I do know that having a clean, organized home and a smooth running household will contribute to marital happiness. So rather than fighting over it, sometimes the best choice is more household help. Take the time and energy you’re directing towards your least favorite household chore (whether it’s grocery shopping, laundry or mopping floors) and hire some help. And if you’re really stressed about it, let us know. If you live in or near the Silicon Valley we’ll help you free up some time for a romantic evening for two – something perhaps a little more inspiring than doing dishes together.
