Moms - 5 Reasons to Stop Feeling Guilty About Your “Me Time”
I don't know about the rest of you moms, but between work, my family and the house, finding – and taking – time for myself is a huge challenge. Even when we arrange our schedules as a family so I can have some "me time," I often feel guilty about taking it!
But, deep down I know it’s important. So here are 5 reasons that help rationalize away the guilt so you can enjoy the time you make for yourself.
“Me Time” Helps Moms…
1. Relieve stress. Stress can build and build in your body if you don’t take time away from the daily grind to relax now and then. If you’re always on the go it can even lead to high blood pressure, heart disease and a suppressed immune system. (If you’re always sick this could be a red flag that you’re over doing it.)

2. Have more patience. If you find yourself snapping at friends and family this is a signal that you need some downtime. You'll be re-energized and in a better mood to address all those daily challenges moms have to take in stride.
3. Set a good example. Just like when the kids see you reading, it models and inspires them to read, taking time for yourself shows your kids the importance of having a well-rounded, balanced life. So pursue some of your interests – whether it's a manicure, spending time with friends or working on your scrapbook…
4. Remember you deserve it. Think about how much you do for others every day. Taking care of the kids, your partner, doing a good job at work, supporting your extended family, volunteer work, etc. etc. We also need to take care of ourselves. In fact, you won’t be able to keep caring for others if you’re always neglecting yourself.
5. Have some fun. You love your kids but take time to remember who you are when you're not actively mothering. Do something unexpected – go to a rock concert, drag your husband out dancing or scream all you want on a roller coaster. There's a life outside of chasing after the little ones, homework and Hannah Montana. So have some fun and you’ll inject joy back into your life.
I'm a firm believer that having "me time" makes me a better mom. Sometimes we just need to remind ourselves of the reasons why it’s so important. Moms, please share your “me time” reasons with me or any tips on how to actually make it happen!
