Get Up and Move this Summer Vacation
Childhood obesity is
plaguing the youth in the United States. In an article by Thomas
N. Robinson, MD, MPH he reported on a recent sampling of 3,155
children and found: “that 2- to 7-year-old children in the United States spend
an average of approximately 2.5 hours per day and 8- to 18-year-old children
spend an average of about 4.5 hours per day watching television and videotapes
and playing video games. When these data are combined with typical sleep data
from children, it is found that children in the United States are spending more
than 25% of their waking hours in front of the television set.”
How can you pry your children out of the
house and get them doing something?
Exercise doesn’t have to be boring. It can be as simple as finding a new
sport like rollerblading or spending a day at an amusement park. A really good place to start is
swimming. It works seldom-used muscles
