Household To-Do List before the Holiday Season

Fall has just begun. So what can we do now to get our house ready for winter and the approaching holiday season? It’ll be here before you know it and you know how it is…With all the holiday parties and overnight guests it means amping up house cleaning. That’s great if you can dedicate yourself to cleaning, cooking and shopping for the next couple months but most of us have work, kids and plenty of other things to keep us busy.
Of course cleaning your bathroom now isn’t going to help you come Christmas. However there are some things that you can get out of the way now and still enjoy the results in a month or two. Here are a few examples:
  • Get your carpets professionally cleaned. Think of all the sand, grass clippings etc. you and your kids have tracked in on your flip-flops this summer.
  • Clean your windows. Take an afternoon and do it yourself or hire a window cleaner to improve your view.
  • Get out the vacuum. I’m not talking about every day vacuuming; this is vacuuming into those hard to reach areas. You can vacuum the drapes, blinds, baseboards behind and beneath furniture. You can also vacuum upholstered furniture, or have professionally cleaned if needed (talk to your carpet cleaner about the best option).
  • Have your furnace checked by a professional, especially if you’re not sure what cleaning or maintenance steps you need to take for your specific furnace. Also, don’t forget to change or clean the filters on a regular basis.
  • Clean your gutters. If you don't clean out your gutters, you run the risk of water building up in them during a rainy winter and causing damage to your house.
At Simplify our services revolve around helping you care for all the details of running your household and caring for your home. So if you could use a little extra help before or after the holidays and you live in the following areas please contact us: the Bay Area Peninsula and South Bay, including Palo Alto, Los Altos, Menlo Park, Atherton, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Cupertino, and San Jose.
