How to Squeeze Exercise into Your Hectic Life
I did some research and here are some tips to help you simplify exercise so you actually do it and not just think about it:
Make time. Some moms know the only way they’ll fit it in is by waking up extra early. Others slide it into their day by walking during a lunch hour or right after dinner. You can find some super creative ideas in an article by Diane Lang, If You Can Multitask, You Can Work Out!
Exercise with your kids. Take your baby or toddler out for some fresh air in his stroller while you enjoy a power walk. Need a little more cardio? Try running or walking alongside your child while she rides her bike! Or get your own bike and take rides with your kids. This winter if it’s too cold to be outdoors try dancing around your leaving room – it’s a super calorie burner and your kids will love it.
Work out at home. If you just can’t justify the drive time and the expense of your gym membership, try investing in some simple equipment at home. Dumbbells and a jump rope are an inexpensive place to start. Try fitness videos that are broken up into segments so you can workout for shorter sessions when necessary. A friend of mine swears by 60 Second Circuits by Susie Shina because she can do a whole blood-pumping routine in just 18 minutes. And if you have a1-3 year old, check out this fun and creative KidLifting workout video that you can do with your toddler, from our friend, personal trainer Maren Sederquist.
It seems like keeping it simple is the key to success with exercise. Please share any creative solutions you’ve discovered to squeeze a little exercise into your busy week.
