Tips to Ensure Your Home is Cared for While You’re on Vacation

Summer is here and many of us are taking vacations. Even if it’s not an extended vacation, most of us probably take a few weekend getaways or go camping. If you have a garden or plants or just want things to be taken care of, you may want to arrange for a house sitter or caretaker to take care of things while youre away.

Here are some things you can do to ensure that things go smoothly while you’re gone:

  • Ask them to pick up mail each day and let them know which papers are delivered and when.
  • Give them a spare set of house keys and don’t forget to make sure they know security access codes.
  • Leave a schedule for watering plants in the house and outside in your garden.
  • Give them a schedule for garbage pick-up and make sure they remove trash cans from the street soon after theyre emptied.
  • If you’ll be away for several weeks, arrange for someone to mow your lawn.
  • Give them an emergency number where you can be reached. If you’re going to be inaccessible give them the number of a trusty neighbor or nearby friend.
  • Double check your list and review it with them to make sure nothing has been left out.

So who do you get to either house sit or keep an eye on everything while you’re away? You can pay a neighborhood teen you can trust or maybe trade the favor with a neighbor. There are also professional house sitters in most communities. If you live in the Bay Area Peninsula and South Bay, Simplify can arrange all of the services for you while you’re away.
