Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Santana Row
Tues. Nov. 18, 2008 6:30-9:00 p.m.
"Kick off the holiday season with Santana Row's LIGHT UP THE ROW Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. NBC Bay Area Brent Cannon and Laura Garcia-Cannon return as hosts of Light Up the Row, which will feature live holiday entertainment, special performances by local theatre groups including the Children's Musical Theatre and San Jose Repertory Theatre and the lighting of more than 500,000 twinkling lights adorning the neighborhood! Additional festivities will take place throughout Santana Row from 6:30-9 p.m., with live music, choirs, carolers, stilt walkers, hot chocolate sampling and activities for children and families."

The program also includes Copland's "Quiet City" and Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms.""
Ghirardelli Square Tree Lighting Ceremony

"Entertainment includes a visit from Santa, live music, strolling holiday carolers, entertainment for the children and more. Holiday entertainment begins at 1:30 p.m. and continues throughout the ceremony. At 5:30 p.m. Roberta Gonzales, weather anchor at San Francisco's KPIX-TV, CBS5, will lead the crowd in anticipation of Santa's arrival and the lighting of the 35-foot-tall Ghirardelli Square tree."

"Each year, the two-acre park is transformed into a holiday fantasy with over 60 musical and animated exhibits and glittering lights and the 60-foot City Community Giving Tree. Some of the original displays are housed in one of the largest exhibits, the Lima Train, and include a melting snowman, caroling mice and elf woodcrafters. The Victorian Village, a 25-foot growing Christmas tree surrounded by the animated Nutcracker Suite exhibit and Santa House welcome park visitors. Guests enter a winter wonderland of lights, songs and entertainment by local schools and groups, and stroll through a forest of trees decorated by San Jose schools, community groups and businesses."
